Bio
I am a California native, grew up in the suburbs about an hour outside of Los Angeles (where I now reside). My decision to become a vegetarian became official when I was twelve. Initially this decision was based on ethical issues. I remember my mom reading an article to me about horse meat becoming popular and thinking that it was so sad that such a beautiful animal was being killed and made into meat, quickly realizing that I was consuming many other animals which I felt just as passionate about. I now take pride in my decision and realize its health and environmental benefits are just as important as the ethical ones.

Living in a small town with very limited options, I was forced to get creative with what I ate and perhaps that is how my interest began. I will never forget the first time I ever stepped into a Whole Foods. I nearly fainted. It was a vegan's paradise. Now I only stop by Whole Foods for specialty items because I can make proteins, cheeses and pastries at home with items from any basic grocery store. I owe a lot of what I know about food and cooking from my mom, who is a wonderful chef. She has made me some phenomenal vegan meals and shops only at Stater Bros.

I am an aspiring vegan cook and though my concoctions are often times even rejected by my cats, I am trying to share my love for cruelty free food with others through social networking. I have been a vegetarian for over ten years, have worked in a vegan restaurant for multiple years, and I am learning to be graceful in the kitchen. I have always been fanatical about food and so often find myself discussing it, therefore decided to put my knowledge to work!

I should mention that while I am highly aware of the controversy over gluten and soy and while I do try to eat these ingredients in moderation I am not interested in restricting myself any more than I already do, hence the name "dirty vegan". In my opinion veganism is, by itself, an extremely clean diet therefore the name implies that while the food is wholesome it doesn't lack any flavor. My goal is to create food that EVERYONE will enjoy, to draw in the non veggies and to show that animal free cuisine is just as exciting and delicious as any other.

My goal is to provide at least three "dirty vegan" recipes a week. I will also be reviewing restaurants and veg friendly hotspots. Pictures are always fun so I will be posting them a lot if not always. I am very open to feedback, suggestions, and recipes! If you are reading this please let me know! I appreciate it!
